Imperial Sugar Refinery Had Previous Explosion

A Georgia sugar refinery that was the scene of a blast that killed nine people experienced a small explosion weeks earlier, according to a federal investigator. The previous explosion was caused by the accumulation of dust in a piece of safety equipment, Stephen Selk of the Chemical Safety Board said. It remains unclear whether the earlier explosion may have contributed to the second blast. AP, The New York Times 02/18/2008
