Study Links Prozac and Other Antidepressants to GI Bleeding

A new study reports that a commonly used class of antidepressants may be linked to bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal tract. The study also noted that chances of bleeding were significantly increased when antidepressants were taken with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory painkillers. The study, published in the the July issue of Archives of General Psychiatry, is the latest of several reports tying the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors family, which includes Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft, to such bleeding.
