Fifth Circuit Hears Arguments in Katrina Insurance Suit

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments Thursday in a lawsuit that accuses some of the nation’s largest insurance companies of conspiring to fix prices in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. At issue is whether the lawsuit, originally filed by former Louisiana Attorney General Charles Foti and others, belongs in state or federal court. Earlier this year, a lower court judge found that the lawsuit should be heard in federal court because it is a class action. AP, New Orleans Times-Picayune 06/05/2008
