Nissan Recalls Airbags

Potential airbag failures have prompted Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. to recall more than 200,000 vehicles in the United States. According to the car manufacturer, warranty reports indicated that side airbags in some models might fail to deploy during an accident. The recall covers 2007 and 2008 Nissan Altima, Altima Coupe, 350Z, Murano and Rogue; and Infiniti G35 Sedan, G37 Coupe and EX35 built from March 12, 2007, to May 27, 2008. Reuters, Reuters 10/15/2008

$10.7 Million Awarded Due to Delayed Brain Scan

A New York City hospital must pay $10.7 million for waiting two hours to perform a brain scan on an injured 71-year-old woman, a jury has ruled. Negligence on the part of New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens caused the plaintiff, Candida Diego, to suffer partial paralysis after she fractured her skull in a 2003 fall, jurors found. $3 Million Awarded to Paraplegic Woman

A Kentucky jury has ordered a physician in a medical malpractice case to pay more than $3 million to a woman who was left paraplegic and mildly brain damaged after a routine heart procedure. Jurors found that Dr. Michael Sekela was 31 percent responsible for improperly attaching a hose that helps pump blood and oxygen during surgery. Medtronic Under Senate Scrutiny

Accusations that Medtronic paid kickbacks to doctors have prompted Senate leaders to push the medical device maker for more information about payments it made to physicians for consulting services. Citing past allegations, Senators Charles Grassley and Herb Kohl issued separate letters Tuesday asking Medtronic to provided detailed information about its consulting relationships. $1.5 Million Awarded in Trucking Accident Case

An Indianapolis-based trucking company and its driver were negligent in a 2006 accident that injured two Texas men, a jury has found. Jurors ordered Celadon Trucking Services, Inc. to pay $1.5 million in damages for medical bills and physical impairment resulting from the trucking accident, according to attorneys for the men. Workers file Wage Suit Against Luby's

A federal judge has granted conditional approval for a class-action lawsuit over tip sharing at Luby's restaurants in Texas. According to the lawsuit, the cafeteria-style restaurant wrongly forced wait staff to share tips in violation of federal wage laws. 10 Children Hurt in Rollover Bush Crash

A bus has rolled over near Ann Arbor, Mich., and children are among the 10 people injured.
Huron Valley Ambulance spokeswoman Joyce Williams says the victims in Thursday's crash are being taken to University of Michigan Hospital.

Collective Action Filed Over Tipping Policy

A Las Vegas restaurant forced some workers to share tips in violation of federal labor laws, a lawsuit filed Monday claims. Workers from Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas allege that the restaurant management forced bartenders, servers, busboys and food runners to contribute to a tip pool that was split between managers and other employees. $28 Million Settlement in Big Dig Death

Fifteen firms have agreed to pay more than $28 million to settle a wrongful death claim filed by the family of a woman killed in the Big Dig tunnel ceiling collapse. Milena Del Valle was killed in 2006 when an improperly installed concrete ceiling panel fell from the tunnel and struck her car.
