Carnival sued for Texas woman's death; Lawsuit claims staff was improperly trained for emergencies

The relatives of a Texas woman who died last year aboard a Carnival ship are suing the cruise liner for negligence, claiming the workers onboard were not properly trained to administer help to passengers in an emergency.

During a cruise in 2011, Angela Holcomb was in her stateroom and went to the bathroom to drink water, but fell and dropped the water glass. Pieces of glass cut a gash in her left arm and according to the suit two crewmembers arrived to help but the plaintiffs claim the workers were not trained properly to handle the emergency.

Family claims an hour passed before relative was taken to medical bay

The complaint states that Holcomb was not taken to the infirmary until nearly an hour after the emergency call. The suit states that after 15 minutes in the infirmary Holcomb "went into cardiac arrest due to the extreme blood loss and was pronounced dead less than an hour later."

The Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office performed an autopsy and determined broken glass severed Holcomb's left ulnar artery.

Relatives sue Carnival for negligence and failure to train crew in serving alcohol and responding to emergencies

Toxicology tests showed Holcomb had a blood alcohol level almost twice the legal limit to drive. Infant Tylenol Recalled Due to Dosage and Syringe issues

Quality control really has plagued Johnson & Johnson lately, and their latest recall involves Infant Tylenol. The company said that it is recalling 574,000 bottles of grape-flavored, liquid Infants' Tylenol from stores nationwide.

A spokesperson said that the bottle's syringe and barrier system that controls dosing had been pushed into the bottle by some customers who reported the issue.

Pfizer recalls 1 million birth control packets

A packaging error has led to a recall of almost 1 million packets of birth control tablets in the U.S. Pfizer, the manufacturer, found that some packets had incorrect hormone dosages and some had incorrect pill counts.

The recall affects Lo/Ovral-28 tablets and generic Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol tablets. Pfizer issued a statement saying the problem was identified and corrected and that the mistake does not pose any immediate health risks, but does raise the risk of unintended pregnancy.

Inspection failures contributed to recall

A company spokeswoman said the problem was caused by both mechanical and visual inspection failures on the packaging line. She said the problem has been corrected. Patients with the affected lot numbers should return them to the pharmacy.

In the press release, Pfizer stated that the pills were manufactured by Pfizer and marketed by Akrimax Pharmaceuticals and shipped to warehouses, clinics and retail pharmacies nationwide.

Dump truck crashes into Metro train - 15 people injured in Downtown Houston collision Tuesday

Early Tuesday morning a dump truck collided with a MetroRail train at Main and Capitol, causing the train to derail and left the dump truck inches away from crashing into a nearby restaurant. Fifteen people were taken to Ben Taub and St. Joseph's hospitals for injuries, according to officials. Three ambulances were called out to the accident.

In a statement, Metro officials claimed the dump truck driver ran a red light. The scene is still being investigated. Rail service in the area is expected to be disrupted for several hours for the investigation and cleanup.

Galveston oil rig worker killed Tuesday by falling equipment

HIGH ISLAND, Texas - A Galveston oil rig worker was killed Tuesday when heavy equipment fell on him on the job site, authorities said. The man was standing by a forklift that had a load of pipe when the equipment shifted and fell, according to a spokesman for the Galveston County Sheriff's Office.
