Family Recovers $13.5 Million in E. Coli Case
A meat supplier for a Sizzler restaurant and others have agreed to pay $13.5 million to the family of 3-year-old girl who died after contracting E. coli-related hemolytic uremic syndrome at the chain's South Milwaukee location. The supplier, Excel Corp., had argued that it should be exempt from the state lawsuit because of federal guidelines governing the meat sold to the restaurant. The deal is estimated to be one of the largest E. coli-related settlements ever. AP, Yahoo News 06/14/2008
