FDA Recalls Darvon and Darvocet
The Food and Drug Administration has recalled one of the most popular pain killers. Data has shown Darvon and Darvocet and their generic counterparts cause a serious risk of heart rhythm abnormalities, including heart arrhythmias. Known genetically as propoxyphene, the drug has been the subject of controversy for many years.
In calling for withdrawal of the drug, the FDA has urged physicians to stop prescribing it immediately. Propoxyphene is an opioid that is used to treat pain. Approximately 10 million people use Darvon or Darvocet each year.
