Consumers File Class-Action Suit Against Procter & Gamble; Fixodent Targeted for Link to Nerve Damage

Hundreds of well-known household products, including Crest, Nyquil, Tide, and Old Spice, fall under Procter & Gamble's umbrella. The $80 billion company is now facing a class-action lawsuit brought by consumers who claim that Fixodent, the denture cream adhesive, caused neurological problems.

Some of the plaintiffs claim that product use caused nerve damage, including symptoms like limb numbness and various neurological problems. Studies have found that denture creams contain zinc and people who use the cream daily, even nightly, have elevated zinc levels in the body. High zinc levels can lead to copper deficiency, which can cause nerve damage.

GlaxoSmithKline, the makers of Poligrip, is also facing a number of lawsuits for the same reason. In the Poligrip suits, consumers claim that the company failed to properly warn people about the risks of using the product. GlaxoSmithKline maintains that the product was safe to use as directed, but some consumers use excess amounts of the cream, which is then absorbed through the skin. GlaxoSmithKline, also the makers of Nicorette, issued a zinc-free formula in February of 2010.

The first study highlighting the link between denture cream and nerve problems came out in 1998. We followed this issue in 2009 and, since then, denture cream lawsuits have increased. This is another instance of big corporations blaming consumers instead of taking responsibility for their products.

Filing a lawsuit against a large corporation can be intimidating. If you need representation, you need an experienced, board certified attorney to represent your case. If you have questions, our attorneys will be glad to speak with you to determine if you have a claim. Contact us for a free consultation.
