Explosion at Mont Belvieu Gas Plant in Texas

A pipeline burst today at a natural gas processing plant in Mont Belvieu. The explosion spread to a couple of nearby vehicles, and the flames are still burning hours later, but there are no reported injuries.

Enterprise Products, a plant about 35 miles east of Houston, controls nearly 50,000 miles of onshore and offshore pipelines. In the past five years, the plant has been cited for permit violations, including inadequate pipe monitoring and failure to prevent excess emissions.

The flames were visible miles away, but the company said nothing toxic is burning.
