Highlander and Lexus RX models recalled by Toyota
Toyota recalls Hybrid SUVs: Highlander and Lexus RX models affected.
Toyota Motor Corp. said it will recall about 82,200 hybrid SUVs in order to fix an electronic issue that can cause the vehicles to lose power or stop completely.
Toyota said that the cause of the problem is the Intelligent Power Module, part of the hybrid power system. Some transistors control boards were soldered incorrectly and may not withstand the heat during driving conditions.
What models are affected?
The recall includes the following models sold in the U.S.:
- 36,700 Lexus RX 400h models from the 2006 and 2007 model years
Toyota said no other vehicles are included in the recall. Usually, Toyota stated, the vehicles will enter a fail-safe mode, but in certain cases the power-supply fuse could blow and cause the vehicle to stop running completely.
Toyota says it will start notifying owners in mid-July.
