Tanker truck overturns on Texas freeway; Almost 3,000 gallons of hazardous asphalt mix spilled onto road.
A tanker truck, driven by a Houston man, overturned when the truck driver turned too fast for the load he was carrying. The weight shifted and the truck overturned in a depot near Diboll, Texas.
The cargo that spilled was a liquid asphalt mix, which is transported at 300 degrees. Authorities believe nearly 3,000 gallons of the mix leaked from the truck onto the highway, causing lane closures on highway 59.
Haz-mat crews have been called in to handle the spill. The tanker truck belongs to EHC Trucking out of Houston. The trucker suffered a broken arm and hit his head during the accident. No other vehicles were involved. The truck driver could be cited for making an unsafe turn.
