$28 Million Awarded in Punitive Damages for Airplane Manufacturer's Defective Part

Recently, a jury awarded $28 million in punitive damages for the families of five victims killed in an airplane crash in 2006. The damages were awarded against a Connecticut airplane parts manufacturer that allegedly made defective engine parts.
The part manufacturer used a different alloy in a compressor turbine blade than called for by the engine's manufacturer, which allegedly caused the right engine to blow up and the plane to crash shortly after.
