Anti-psychotic Drugs Linked to Heart Problems

The New England Journal of Medicine has published a study showing that people taking anti-psychotic drugs such as Zyprexa or Risperdal were twice as likely to suffer heart attacks. The study also indicated that older drugs may be safer and just as effective in treating schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Rob Waters, Bloomberg 01/15/2009

Hospital Pays $6.5 Million in Brain Injury Case

An Illinois hospital will pay $6.5 million to settle a medical malpractice lawsuit brought by the parents of a baby who sustained brain damage at birth. The plaintiffs had claimed that the doctors and staff of the hospital failed to timely respond to fetal distress caused by administering the drug Pitocin.
