Bicyclist Killed in Accident in Huffman

A bicyclist was killed in Huffman earlier this week after he was hit by a truck while crossing the road in Huffman. Houston Police Officers responded to the accident, which involved a 31 year old bicyclist and a Chevy Silverado pickup truck. The bicyclist was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The bicyclist was riding a bicycle northbound across several lanes of traffic when he was struck by a truck which was travelling westbound. The accident is still under investigation. No charges have yet been filed.

Under Texas law, injured bicyclists can recover compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and permanent disability. In many cases, bicycle-automobile accidents occur because drivers on the road fail to pay attention or drive recklessly. In some cases, more than one party contributed to the accident, which can make it difficult to determine who is financially responsible.

Most bicyclists who are hit by motor vehicles suffer serious or even fatal injuries. Even in relatively low-impact crashes, bicyclists can suffer from broken bones, concussions, and even death. Approximately 600 bicyclists are killed each year and over 50,000 are injured in the U.S. in crashes with automobiles.
