Family of Six Injured by Drunk Driver in Houston

A tragic accident involving drinking and driving injured six family members in north Houston over the July 4 holiday weekend. The accident occurred around 9 pm on the North Freeway at West Parker. A man driving a Ford Mustang ran a red light and hit a family’s Nissan, causing the Nissan to hit a light pole.

Inside the Nissan were two parents and their four children. The entire family was taken to the hospital. Three of the children suffered serious injuries and one suffered only minor bruises. There was no word on the parents’ conditions. The driver of the Mustang was taken to the hospital and was found to be intoxicated. He was charged with three counts of intoxication assault.

Unfortunately, accidents involving drunk drivers are very common in the U.S., particularly over long holiday weekends. Drunk drivers are responsible for about 10,000 deaths every year, and many more people are injured. Although drunk drivers in most cases will face criminal penalties, including jail time, probation, community service, fines, and more, that does not help you recover money that can help you recover from your injuries. In order to recover for your damages, you will need to speak with an attorney and file a lawsuit. The driver may have assets or an insurance policy that can help cover the damages, or a third party such as his or her employer may be responsible.
