Houston-Area Boy Hurt in Lawnmower Accident

A Houston-area boy will be coming home from the hospital after undergoing several surgeries to repair his foot after a lawnmower accident. The accident occurred on June 21. The boy was injured when he was backed over by a riding lawnmower. The 4 year old ran into the path of the lawnmower while trying to get on with his father, who did not know he was behind him.

The boy lost his big toe and had to have a portion of his arm muscle removed and grafted onto the top of his foot. Sadly, this accident is not uncommon. Many lawn mower manufacturers choose to be cheap when it comes to safety, because they do not wish to bear the cost of safety devices that would reduce the number of injuries caused during mowing accidents.

Although riding lawn mowers are very convenient to use when cutting large lawns, they can also be prone to accidents. Some situations in which accidents commonly occur involving riding mowers include when the mower tips over when making a tight turn, when the mower lacks the necessary safety equipment and devices, and when a person is hit by debris flying from a lawnmower or is hit by the actual mower itself. Those accidents can cause very serious injuries, including deep cuts and bleeding, the loss of a limb, spinal cord or nervous system injuries, broken bones, and even death

If you have been hurt in a lawn mower accident, you should speak with an attorney. You may be able to recover compensation for your accident depending on the circumstances involved.
