A man died in a tragic accident on Easter Sunday in east Harris County. He was being pulled in a tube at Banana Bend Beach in Highland near the San Jacinto River by a person in a jet ski. Another man driving a jet ski was attempting to catch up to the driver when he lost control and crashed into the tube, which had two passengers. Authorities say the jet ski driver that hit the tube was unfamiliar with how to operate the jet ski.
Both passengers were thrown into the water. One of the passengers quickly came to the surface of the water, but the other passenger, a 21 year old man, never surfaced and drowned. His life vest came off in the impact. It took divers about an hour and a half to find his body. Harris County officials are investigating to see if drinking was involved or if any charges will be filed.
As the weather warms up, more Texans will be hitting the state’s waterways. In some cases, what is supposed to be a fun day on the water turns deadly. This is especially true when alcohol is involved. If you are involved in a boating, jet ski, or swimming accident that occurs because of the negligence of another individual, you may have legal rights. The other person involved may be liable for your accident, or another party such as a boat manufacturing company that manufactured an unsafe boat.
