My loved one took Xarelto and bled to death in Texas. What are my legal options?

I’m so sorry to hear about your loved one’s death. Xarelto has been responsible for a number of deaths and serious health problems. Xarelto is an anticoagulant that is prescribed for atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation causes problems with the circulation system and an irregular heartbeat.

The traditional medication that was used to treat atrial fibrillation was Warfarin. Xarelto was marketed as an alternative to Warfarin. However, there were a number of false claims made to patients in marketing the medication. Patients were told that they would not need to undergo regular blood monitoring with Xarelto.  However, patients prescribed Xarelto experienced greater risk of internal bleeding than those that were prescribed alternatives. They also had a greater risk of stroke and brain hemorrhaging, a greater risk of paralysis. In addition, when bleeding did occur in patients, there was no agent to reverse it like with other drugs.

Xarelto was initially only considered for the treatment of atrial fibrillation, but later received approval to be used to treat deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolisms. Johnson and Johnson, which manufactures Xarelto, claimed that it was more effective than alternatives, such as Warfarin. Those claims later proved to be false.
