Comments (0)

One person is dead and three others were injured after an incident over the weekend involving a chemical explosion at a chemical plant in Pasadena. The explosion occurred at the PeroxyChem  plant on Bay Area Boulevard due to an over-pressurized tank. PeroxyChem manufactures and supplies hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid, persulfates and related technologies.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Another victim had a broken arm. Two others suffered from exposure to dangerous chemicals. Shortly after the accident, it was unclear if those injured were employees of the chemical plant. After the explosion, hazmat teams responded as well as other emergency responders from surrounding areas.

Explosions at chemical plants and refineries are not that common, but when they do occur the results can be tragic. It’s been estimated that roughly three percent of total workplace deaths come from workplace fires and explosions. Chemical companies have an obligation to ensure that their workers are safe, and must do everything they can to prevent deadly accidents. Workplace explosions can cause a variety of injuries, from burns, broken bones, lacerations, traumatic brain injuries, and even death.
