One Killed and Four Injured in Possible Drunk Driving Accident in Houston

One person was killed and four were injured after the truck in which they were riding hit a tree in north Houston. The Chevy pickup was driving westbound on Lauder Road when the accident occurred.

The truck was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, went into a ditch, rolled over, and crashed into a tree. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Four others in the truck were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

At the time the accident occurred, the driver had just left a birthday celebration at the home of a family member. Alcohol is believed to have contributed to the accident.

The statistics on drunk drivers in the U.S. are shocking. Over 10,000 people are killed in traffic accidents involving drunk drivers every year. This statistic is particularly sad because drunk driving accidents can be so easily prevented.

Drunk drivers are legally responsible for the damages caused by their behavior. They can be forced to pay damages for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, wrongful death, and punitive damages in addition to facing criminal charges.
