Truck Driver Driving Carelessly Blamed for Death of Houston Woman

A Texas truck driver was recently issued a citation for careless driving after he caused the death of a Houston woman. Officers discovered a 2016 Freightliner semi-truck was travelling on a four-lane highway when he stopped and made a turn. He didn’t realize he was on a four-lane road and headed east into the westbound passing lane.

The truck driver caught the mistake and began backing up so he could take corrective action and travel in the correct lane. While he was backing up, he was perpendicular to the road. A Toyota Camry driven by a Houston woman failed to see the tractor trailer in the road and crashed into it. The woman suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. According to investigators, alcohol was not a factor, and the woman was not wearing a seat belt. The truck driver was issued a citation but was not otherwise detained.

There are hundreds of thousands of crashes each year involving semi-trucks and tractor trailers. Many of the accidents are caused by the negligence of one or both of the drivers involved. Because of the sheer size, weight, and speeds at which tractor trailers travel, serious injuries can result in an accident, even a minor accident.

The trucking industry in the U.S. is enormous and yields a lot of power. After an accident occurs involving a tractor trailer, it’s common for lawyers and insurance adjusters from the trucking industry to push victims into a quick settlement. It’s critical that those injured in accidents with tractor trailers have their own attorneys.
