Two Killed in Houston Crash with 18-Wheeler

Tragically, late last week two people were killed in a major accident on US-290 west at Mason Road in Houston. An 18-wheeler and a car collided, killing two people and causing a spill of dangerous chemicals.

The accident occurred when the car became broken down in a lane of traffic near a construction area. There was no shoulder for the car to park. The driver of the vehicle tried to wave down the truck to let the driver know the car was stalled, but the tractor trailer hit the car, killing a person in the back seat. The driver of the 18-wheeler died after the truck’s cab caught fire.

The driver of the car was not injured. Three other people were inside the car. Two were able to get out and were taken to a local hospital for unknown injuries.

Tractor trailers can be extremely dangerous to other vehicles. Tractor trailers travel at high rates of speed, and they are normally many, many times heavier than other vehicles on the road. Their drivers are often tired and overworked, and may break the rules about how long they can drive without resting. If that happens, and an accident results, in many cases the trucking company or the driver can be held legally liable.
