Worker Killed at Houston Ship Channel

Authorities are investigating the death of a worker who was crushed at the Port of Houston. The accident was reported on a weekday morning on a ship in the Houston Ship Channel. Authorities said that it appears that the worker was working in the hold of a ship when something fell on him. He had to be extracted after the accident.

Although this accident was extremely tragic, it is far from unique. The maritime industry is one of the most dangerous industries for workers in the U.S. In addition, there is a unique set of laws that applies to maritime accidents and injuries that do not apply to accidents that occur on land. Maritime laws cover issues that happen on what are known as navigable waters, which are bodies of water used for interstate or international commerce, such as lakes, rivers, and oceans.

If you have been harmed in a maritime accident, you may be able to file a lawsuit under federal maritime laws for compensation. You may be entitled to compensation for your medical expenses, lost wages, lost earning capacity, physical and mental pain and suffering, disfigurement, and permanent disability. You may also be entitled to something called “maintenance and cure”, which is similar to workers’ compensation.
